I am an artist based in Stoke-on-Trent who works predominantly with clay. My most recent work derives its inspiration from my twin interests in origami and paper-craft. My porcelain paper clay work reflects, in a contemporary style, ideas of fragility and material transformation through the human hand.
Since graduating from the University of Sunderland in 2012, I have been working for the British Ceramics Biennial and other local arts organisations, such as Appetite Stoke and B-Arts, leading workshops and assisting artists with various community based projects in the local area. I have also held workshops in schools, which has been significant in teaching me to engage well with young people. The work I have been involved in has been key in my practice as it has given me inspiration and confidence to continue with the work I do. I have worked with many interesting people, from all walks of life. I hope to continue to build relationships with these people, and to create new ones. Community engagement has been my focus as I believe this is key in helping Stoke-on-Trent grow as creative and cultural city. I believe it is extremely important to teach people new social and cultural ideas using creative mediums, and to experience the versatility, beauty and heritage of clay.
